Boiled Egg Timer

Perfect soft, jammy or hard-boiled eggs — adjusted for size, temperature and altitude.

Recommended time:
00:00
Method: lower the eggs gently into already-boiling water, then start the timer and keep the water at a steady simmer. When it finishes, plunge the eggs into iced water for a minute to stop the cooking and make them easier to peel.

Boiled egg times explained

Timing starts the moment the eggs hit boiling water. Soft eggs have a runny yolk and just-set white; jammy eggs have a soft, sticky yolk; hard-boiled eggs are set through. Bigger eggs and fridge-cold eggs take a little longer, while room-temperature eggs cook slightly faster and are less likely to crack.

Altitude matters: water boils at a lower temperature the higher you are, so eggs need extra time — this tool adds it automatically based on your elevation.
